Kuching 2014 Day 3

Assalamualaikum.

Well, it takes me almost one year to reach Day 3 in Kuching. I hope you readers have patience with me to complete this story. I hope tonight the internet speed is fast enough to update this post.

Today, our 3rd day in Kuching. Our only destination was Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) in Damai. The obvious landmark here is Gunung Santubong (Mount Santubong). This village is next to Damai beach about 40km from Kuching. Click here for more info.

This time I drove to SCV and my brain was the GPS, Waze, Garmin etc.

So we started our day with good breakfast, roti canai. So, Sarah joined us for this trip and at least, Farhana has a friend. The roti canai was good and soft. I don't know where the restaurant is but it is on the same route to SCV. Sarah did not eat spicy food but I told her, if she wanted to befriend with me, she had to eat the roti canai and with curry. And she ate it all. Hahahahah.

 Yeah....

After that good breakfast, here we were at the entrance of SCV. It was hot and Fayyad was asleep.

If compared to Taman Mini Asean in Melaka, this one is better. The area is huge, clean and relaxing.
This SCV is a must place to visit if you come to Sarawak. For RM60.00 ticket for an adult, it is value for money.

The bridge is cool and I think these girls have never experience to cross those kind of bridge ever in their lives.

Big girl..

Our first stop was Bidayuh House.

Our next stop....Iban House. I think it is the biggest attraction in SCV.

The girls the happiest ones including one warrior boy from Semenanjung. The girls were dressed up in traditional Iban clothes..,.they looked so cute donning those clothes.

The weather was so hot that the kids were sweating a lot. We were just strolling and lepaking at this house. It is 3-storeys high if I am not mistaken. While I was exploring the house, the others were playing down here..

Every checkpoint, you must stamp the passport book...as a proof that you have been there. Interesting.

After completing the visit to all house, it was time for the cultural show. It is the best cultural performance that I have ever watched so far.

After the show, we had lunch at the Restaurant Budaya inside the SCV. We reached home around 4.00pm and it was time to relax.

That night we celebrated Siti Anis Farhana birthday. My sister bought cake and gift for the birthday girl. That night we went no where just melepak at home. Borak-borak and relax.

That was our day 3 in Sarawak.

To be continued....

Adios..

Kuching 2014 Day 2

Assalamualaikum,

I am going to continue to continue to share our activities on the second day. As I was the one who prepared the itinerary, there were only two places to visit that were Serikin and Cat Museum. For this, I hired a tourist guide to take the whole family to both places. The transport was not a van nor sedan but this...

Actually, the luxury MPV is owned by my friend. An old friend and the most annoying person on earth that I have ever befriend with. Hahahaha....jangan marah Pahang. His name is Mohd Wahidi of Pahang. That is why we call him Pahang. Now, he is a teacher in Kota Samarahan and married to Sarawakian which he met while in college. He is blessed with 2 kids, a son and a daughter. This is Pahang and his service is not for rent as his service is limited to friends only.

He picked me up early n the morning and we had our breakfast somewhere on the road which I do not know where. We had mee goreng for breakfast. The sky was clear and this could be one hot day for us. We reached Serikin around 10a.m and there were a lot of people.

Serikin is a small town around 80km from Kuching and close to Indonesia border. It is like Padang Besar or Bukit Kayu Hitam in Semenanjung Malaysia. I had been here in year 2008 during my sister wedding. And now I return with my family. Most of the items sold here were clothes. Definitely Indonesian made. Some were cheap and some none to my calculation. However, shopping in an open air under hot sun with two small kids was not a feat. So, we did not shop much as it was very hot. I just bought a riding jacket. Maybe, in the future I might return with my wife only and we could go shopping spree.

On way back to Kuching, we entered Bau town to take pictures. Bau is a gold mining town but I do not know much about the mining operations today.

As it was lunch time, Pahang took us to one chicken rice restaurant near Bau, the SCR Restaurant. I think it is Sarawak Chicken Rice. In Semenanjung we have Chicken Rice Shop. Both offer identical product, chicken rice. At SCR, I liked the beansprout more than what Chicken Rice Shop offering. Here are the two families at the restaurant.

After tasting the food, I think Chicken Rice Shop is better.

When everyone was full, we moved to Cat Museum back in Kuching. The museum sits on Siol Hill overlooking the Kuching city. More info about this museum here.

You will not find anything else here but cat. All about cats.

As a memento with Pahang before he sent us home.

for dinner, we sent to Top Spot, one of the popular places in Kuching for seafood. There are several restaurants up there and it is up to you to choose one. Basically they offer identical menus which are seafood.
My brother in law suggested to dine at No 25.

We had satay, crab with salted egg, butter prawn, steamed pomfret. I liked the crab the most as it is quite spicy.

After dinner, we went home and crashed.

That were the activities on our second day in Kuching. On the third day, we would be going to Cultural Village in Gunung Santubong. And we planned to have a birthday bash for Kakak as we wanted to celebrate it earlier and to celebrate in Kuching.

I will try to complete this story of our family vacation as soon as possible.

Definitely, our trip to Kuching has ignited a new desire to go flying somewhere else and our next target is Kota Kinabalu.

OK. Kita jumpa lagi.
